This history of discovery was interesting, but the physics was so simplified that it was too abstract, although I'll admit that a more rigorous approach would have probably drowned me in mathematics I had never heard of before.

Read it as smoothly as a novel. Learned a lot. Harald Fritzsch has fantastic explanation skills that make particle physics seem easy. A bit outdated, as it is three decades old.

An enjoyable account of the development and verification of theories of spin, color, charm, and flavor. It is a bit dated (published in the 80s), but still worthwhile both because most of it hasn't changed too much and also as a sociological/historical account of science in practice. It also will teach you that you should name your next band "Brehmsstrahlung of Gluons".

Good intro to quarks at the easiest conceptual level. NO MATH (a good or bad thing depending on one's point of view..)
