I was back to sitting on the fence when Derek came back but then the unbearably romantic flower scene happened: I’d kill for you, Kylie Galen. But more than that, I’d die for you.”She felt a tear roll down her cheek. “You’d better not die on me, Lucas Parker.” yup I'm back to being team Lucas! xD I really like how the plot is such a mystery and when you're on the kindle version you read the last page and then say, 'wait that's it?' because the plot keeps you glued to the pages so much. CAUTION: Long Review, Spoilers Taken At Dusk is book 3 of the Shadow Falls series, a series that is named after the summer camp turned school for supernatural adolescents. At least I thought Shadow Falls was supposed to be a school beginning in book 2. However, it turned out at 83% in book 3 Shadow Falls was "getting the camp ready to become a full-blown school." At least I thought Shadow Falls was supposed to be a school beginning in book 2. However, it turned out at 83% in book 3 Shadow Falls was "getting the camp ready to become a full-blown school." What?! All this time Kylie was going to a camp, not a school. Fine. Then where were the camp activities in book 3 that supposed to have the kids learning and respecting supernatural cultures and be all kumbaya and crap? Because one scene of a group activity serving another episode of "When Kylie Gets Attacked" and one scene of a camp festival serving another episode of "Everybody, Especially Those Two Boys, Loves Kylie" didn't count. In short, TAD failed to maintain its setting. Kylie shouldn't be worrying about her mother discovering her secret life in the supernatural world. She should be worrying about her mother discovering she have been sending Kylie to play hooky. Kylie the Bum So what is Kylie doing at Shadow Falls if she's not learning anything and evil dudes keep trying — oh heavens are they trying — to kill her there? It was the question that persisted in my mind as I read over 107,000 words of the novel. I hazard Kylie going to Shadow Falls was so she could discover her supernatural identity because she sure as white on rice wasn't human. Shadow Falls was the only “safe” place Kylie knew where the supernatural races gathered. I guess Kylie didn't give a hoot whether Shadows Fall was a camp or school as long she got her answer. Because knowing what magical creature you are is somehow more important than getting your education and preparing for your future so you can have money for food, shelter, and clothes. Alrighty then. At least she has a goal. Kylie the Wanna-be Sinner In TAD, Kylie was presented with the theory that she may be a “protector.” I thought perhaps it was our answer. Except one teeny tiny eensy problem: What the frell is a protector? Kylie's gal-pals said it's someone who is “super, super rare,” with strength greater than a vampire's. “They can be anything, but they’re known to be good and pure. Sort of the Mother Teresa of supernaturals,” “usually...only one protector born every hundred or two hundred years.” And that's all we ever learn because Kylie was repeatedly sidetracked by boy troubles to pursue the matter. *facepalm* The ditz couldn't keep sight of her goal. It gets worse. The ditz took the Mother Teresa reference literal because she thought being a protector meant she to had be a nun and she didn't want to be a nun or any other sort of a saint. In her own words, she said she wanted “to sin,” i.e. to drink, to tell dirty jokes, to do things with boys (chapter 22). Sweet Jesus Honey Dews! Putting aside Kylie's purity shit, if Kylie bothered to learn more about protectors, then she might have learned earlier on as opposed to near the end of the book that protectors weren't supernatural saints. Protectors protect people, they don't go and become nuns! This was one the many examples of Kylie being a dumbass. Kylie the Dumbass Another example was Kylie's insistence on helping an amnesiac ghost after Holiday told her the ghost may be a hell-bound spirit in chapter 21. Why didn't Holiday warn Kylie about this in book 1 when Kylie first confessed she saw dead people instead chapter frigging 21 of book frigging 3? What kind of a camp counselor is she? Isn't Shadow Falls supposed to be a place of education, not keeping people ignorant? To be fair, Holiday was redeemed after she quickly conceded the matter to Kylie. Kylie, OTOH, did nothing to redeem herself. I believe Kylie was equally at fault for failing to learn about hell-bound spirit as Holiday was at fault for failing to teaching Kylie. Kylie should've taken the time out to learn more about her ghost-whispering power instead relying on Holiday to tell her everything every time Kylie encounter something ghosty. For a girl who whined at people for not helping her, she hardly did anything to help herself. Moreover, I couldn't believe Kylie used the stupid excuse that her heart told her it's the right thing to do by helping the ghosts. The ditz can't even decide between two boys, so her heart isn't the right body part to listen. Maybe if she'd use her brain, she would know. Kylie the Hypocrite If she'd use her brain, she would realize she had no business asking Ellie if Ellie had sex with Derek. Kylie wasn't with Derek, she was with Lucas. Whatever Derek and Ellie did was their own business. Derek and Kylie sharing a past didn't afford Kylie the privilege to intrude. I was astounded to read Kylie "admitting she was a virgin to a stranger [to Ellie] didn’t sit well with her" (chapter 25) but confronting a stranger about their sexual activity was. R U FUCKING KIDDING ME? Kylie was completely blinded to her hypocrisy! I really, really, really wanted Ellie to bitchslap Kylie. Kylie the Useless Heroine Basically, for the entire novel, Kylie was useless. She wasn't assertive in her goal to discover her supernatural identity. She wasn't even assertive in helping the amnesiac ghost until the ghost resorted to giving Kylie visions, visions that forced Kylie to walk in the ghost's shoes in the ghost's dying moments. That's why I called BS on Kylie's excuse that she just wanted to do the right things and be altruistic. Bitch, please. It was more like Kylie wanted the ghost off of her back. Pretty much every time I thought Kylie was about to become productive in her self-discovery quest, she got sidetracked with her boy troubles. The Love Triangle, aka Kylie the Fickle Girlfriend The series didn't just drag out the mystery of Kylie's supernatural identity, it also dragged out Kylie's love triangle. I truly thought things with Derek were over in book 2. Foolish me. Derek came back in TAD and the status quo of the love triangle reaffirmed itself. Things started to look up when Kylie attempted to get over Derek and hooked up with Lucas. For while, I liked Lucas until I realize how Kylie tells everything to Lucas, but Lucas hardly tells anything to Kylie. I did not like how Lucas kept silent that members of his race disapproved of his relationship with her. I didn't like how Kylie have to find out about it from Fredericka, the bitch werewolf crushing on Lucas, and Lucas's grandmother. And if what Ellie screamed at Lucas in chapter 23 was true, then Kylie should breakup with Lucas before she learn the hard way that Lucas will choose his pack over her. Yet the ditz didn't even bat a thought at Ellie's outburst. She immediately accepted Derek's apology in the next scene. To be fair, Lucas flattered her after his apology and it couldn't be helped that Kylie was a ditz and befuddled by the seduction of corny lines. Finally, near the end of TAD, Derek confessed his love for Kylie and the poor ditz was befuddled some more. What a girl to do with two unsuitable boys? Things I Didn't Like Overall, I didn't like Kylie the ditz. I didn't like the two boys mooning over the ditz. I didn't like the ditz's self-involved gal-pals Della and Miranda and their love triangles — Della with Lee and Steve, Miranda with Perry and Todd. This series is shitting love triangles! The one character I did like TAD killed! (view spoiler)[It was Ellie. Poor vamp never got a chance. (hide spoiler)] Apparently, decent people are endangered in this series. My biggest gripe was how Kylie's supernatural identity was revealed at the end in another tiresome cliffhanger. The way it was revealed, it could have been easily revealed as early as book 2 if not book 1. (view spoiler)[Daniel, Kylie's biological father of a ghost, told her they were chameleons. Yuuuup. They're lizards. (hide spoiler)] Basically, the first 2/3 of TAD was filler while the last 1/3 was the actual story-telling. Things I Did Like Yet, TAD had its fun moment, if only few and far. I enjoyed the girl's silly chats, especially the one that degenerated to “Della [turning] on the computer [to look] up strange mating behaviors that included everything from exploding testicles to slinging poop with a tail.” I enjoyed the explosive end of the camp festival, courtesy of Miranda's magic misaim, where Burnett was literally hopping mad. I enjoyed the subplot romance between Burnett and Holiday — the one couple who didn't have a love triangle. Finally, I enjoyed Kylie's public humiliation when Kylie's mother and old best friend Sara came to visit her at Shadow Falls in chapter 30. I wished it lasted longer and not besmirched by Kylie's rudeness against Sara. In Conclusion I rate TAD a solid 2-stars for it was okay. I recommend the TAD for readers who enjoyed book 1-2. For readers interested in the series, book 3 is a good place to start.

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers. To view it, click here. I'm finished!!!!! And it was amazing!!!!! Gods, I want to know who the ghost was . . . at the end of the book. And I totally called the ghost being Daniel's mom when you saw her first being pregnant. And the "Brightens", I'd figured they were her real grandparents, and I'd been close. The woman had been her Great Aunt!!!! What she really was, I really wasn't expecting that . . . but I loved it all the same!!!!!

We are back at Shadow Falls and Kylie is still trying to process everything that has happened to her with the vampires. Things are never quiet for Kylie though, soon a women who cannot seem to remember who she is, is stalking Kylie and bringing a grave warning. And with that warning eerie things are beginning to happen. With the boy situation... how do you chose over two amazing, and sexy, guys who love you? Well, Kylie decides to give Lucas a chance but, his pack may stand in their way. Other than that chaos, Kylie is desperate to figure out who she is and she just may be getting closer. But when some truths are revealed will Kylie be ready to hear the answer? Taken At Dusk is full of thrills and some twists that I honestly didn't see coming. I simply cannot get enough of Kylie's reality. I love how C.C. Hunter made her supernaturals and each lore that goes along with them. For some reason, a lot of characters really stood out for me in this installment. I found myself adoring Della and her wittiness. And, Perry... oh my gosh that boy can make you laugh. Even the new character, Ellie. I wanted to hate her and at first I did. But, she grows on you so quickly, and I ended loving the role she played. And finally the boys. I've been constantly on the fence (even though I leaned toward Lucas), and I have to say I think I'm still sitting on that fence! I don't know how C.C. does it! But, there are things about both boys that you fall in love with and things about both boys that you want to kick them for. I must say, I was extremely happy with what happened with Kylie and Lucas in this one. I found myself enjoying their story line. But, Derek is still there and the things he does just make you want to root for him too. I am so excited to see what C.C. decides to do with these two fine fellas, because I love them both. I always get so pulled into these stories that I feel completely sad when they're over. These books make you laugh, they make your stomach drop, overall they have an ease of trapping you in the story from beginning to end. I just want to know what happens next! I want to know what Kylie completely is! I want to laugh more with Della, Miranda, and Perry! I want more sexy times with Derek and Lucas! All I know is that C.C. Hunter definitely did not disappoint with this one! And I cannot wait for Whispers At Moonrise!!

I'm so tired of hearing Kylie complain about Derek ending their relationship. They didn't have any relationship. When Derek tried to get close to her she always pushed him away telling him that she didn't want the other campers to know how she feels when he's close, that she was ashamed of her feelings. She repeated that same sentence over in over in the second book and now it's Derek fault because he couldn't stand watching her always thinking about Lucas or because he didn't stood by her side s I'm so tired of hearing Kylie complain about Derek ending their relationship. Now, when she's making out with Lucas, she's not ashamed anymore? Or when he tells everyboby he's her boyfriend without even asking her first? She's such a hypocrite. And then she gets all crazy about Derek sleeping with Ellie and thinking he betrayed her, while Lucas slept with Fredericka when they were away. She forgives Lucas for sleeping with Fredericka immediately, but she keeps acting like a bitch with Derek for about 300 pages. HYPOCRITE.

"Life's hard. Love's harder." I was so excited when I finally was able to read this book early, and as always, CC Hunter never fails to amaze me with her story-telling, I just loved this series. And I liked the new characters and mystery she added that has kept me more interested. So the story deals with Kylie, who is trying to figure out what she really is and trying to fit where she really belong in this new world she found. Kylie seemed to grow more through out the story which is really really good. But her feelings for these two hot guys - charming fae Derek and badass werewolf Lucas- are still floating. Well if you ask me, dunno who to pick! I'm crazy over Lucas but I'm also fond of Derek. He grew on me from the second book so its kind of difficult to choose for Kylie right now. We will see how it goes, lets hope that CC would really pull this one up neatly. I also loved the side characters around Kylie, CC really did a great job creating a story that doesnt only revolves with our protagonist(self-discovery) but also extended to her supporting characters. Oh, and I really really think Della(the vampire) is a kickass. I loved her! The plot twists were intriguing, there were a right amount of mystery, tension, laugh out loud moments, romance and emotional scenes. Overall, I really really liked this book, this is the kind of book/series that every teenagers should read, Kylie is really a great protagonist, although flawed, but great. There are more questions that needs an answers so cant wait for the fourth installment! Lines I loved: “Thing is, those two sort of go hand in hand. Not that you’ll ever really forget, but you accept that it happened and move on. You accept that all people make mistakes. No one is perfect.” “And what if you can’t?” Kylie watched a bee buzz past her. “What if I can’t ever really forgive him?” “Then you let go,” she said. "There are no guarantees,” Kylie countered. “Not with love or with life. But we can’t go through life never taking a risk. And that’s what we are all agreeing to do. Put our hearts out there. Take a chance with a boy. We might end up hurt, but we might not.”

The writing is awful at best and the plot line is either her gushing about a guy, her moaning about her life, or her not being able to make her mind up. Sometimes all at the same time! No but really this book series is abysmal. She just started saying about how her mum should forgive her dad for cheating on her. Quite simply, fuck off. The fact that she couldn't forgive the guy she flirted with a bit for having sex with his ex girlfriend when he saw her again, despite the fact that he was not dating Kylie at the time, or indeed ever had dated her, is just fucking ridiculous. THEY NEVER DATED. THEY JUST HOOKED UP A BIT. THEN SHE IGNORED HIM AND BLANKED HIM FOR NO REASON. THEN HE LEFT. THEN HE HAD SEX WITH HIS EX GIRLFRIEND. NOW SHE WON'T TALK TO HIM AND IS ANGRY. ...what. And yet she thinks that her (step)dad, who carried out an affair with a very young intern behind her mothers back, should be forgiven? No I'm sorry Kylie, you don't need to come down from that high horse, you need to be DRAGGED. And not to mention her old best friend was DYING OF CANCER and even though she thinks she's cured her, she couldn't be assed to even check? Really? Class A bitch act you've got going on here. And I genuinely cannot even talk about the boy situation here, she is utterly ridiculous. If a girl acted like this in real life both guys would dump her ass and move on. And if a guy did this to her she would be "heartbroken" and angsty as fuck. Stop with the damned double standards. Really to summarise, I gave the first book a chance. It was bad, but had potential. I figured it was a debut novel and the sloppiness/lack of talent would be things improved by experience and finding a decent editor. Instead, the writing went downhill. Oh. The second book was awful in the extreme, with random plot lines springing into action put of nowhere and disappearing again. The other characters have NO backstory what do ever, and the lack of physical descriptions is just disgusting. The characters, with the SOLE exception of the main one, (and her two love interests), feel like 2D cardboard cutouts. Even the love interests, Derek and Lucas have not been given much detail. Derek doesn't have a last name or a general physical description (what the fuck is his hair colour?) and Lucas doesn't have an personality besides dominant and overbearing. Literally, she doesn't know anything about either of them really. Expect that "their hugs are wonderful and they are like soooo buff!" And on the subject of hair colour still, the author regularly reminds us of Miranda's coloured hair, but the thing is...she never mentions what fucking colours are in her hair. Or whether it's all over coloured or just highlighted. It's confusing and whilst the story is not all about the characters looks, of course, being able to actually build a mental picture of the main characters is rather a prerequisite. So overall, this is a real failure in the publishing world.

Okay people. Get ready for the spoilers. So we now know what Kylie Galen is. She is a…wait for it…yup, here it comes, oh God it’s still so damn funny… A…C-H-A-M-E-L-E-O-N! Yes! Get ready for the spoilers. So we now know what Kylie Galen is. She is a…wait for it…yup, here it comes, oh God it’s still so damn funny… A…C-H-A-M-E-L-E-O-N! Yes! You read that right! She’s a freaking lizard! Oh God! It actually took my brain a few seconds to come around the fact that what I read was the word “chameleon”. So jokes aside, it does seem to be the perfect name for her kind. She just realized from Red whose real name was Robertson that she is a different kind of supernatural that has the potential to change brain patterns and become whoever the hell they want. Red could become a vampire, or a werewolf or could shape-shift and his pattern could look all human like. But, that said, he wasn’t all powerful as Kylie would be because he wasn’t born at midnight like she was. So I guess her being born at midnight makes her a healer and a ghost-whisperer too. So, ummm, that was the main plot. There were a few deaths and I really wanna know whose ghost has decided to haunt her now, when the ghost is of a person who hasn’t even died yet. So does that mean that she could get a glimpse of future and know who was gonna die? Well, now I should start mentioning the things that I actually liked. I liked how Burnett and Holiday might have made up in the end. I liked how that Jane Doe aka Heidi Summers happened to be Kylie’s real grandmother. I feel that a real big fuss was created about the fake grandparents visit in the beginning of this book. The old man was truly her real grandfather! Although it still remains in question that how the hell did they disappear? And why did they go to the lengths of stealing and lying? Did he want to be sure about his son’s death or the life that he thought his son never had cause his own wife had lied to him about it? That seems most likely to me. Anyways, what else did I like? I guess that’s about it. Now, the things I didn’t like. *cracks knuckles* Firstly, Kylie and her whining and talking about both Derek and Lucas pissed me off. She was less annoying than the previous books. At least she had the sense to focus on the current problems rather than only swooning over Lucas’ kisses or thinking about Derek’s betrayal. But mind you, there was still a lot of it. Secondly, Lucas was like this overly possessive guy who gets his way by barging into a girl’s room and asking her for forgiveness by showering her with flowers or kisses. That might be the idea of romantic for some girls, but hey, a girl needs her space! And Lucas sure as hell didn’t give that. Maybe he gave Kylie some sort of peace but then he didn’t even understand her or her feelings and the way he got all jealous over Derek only when she took his side was just unacceptable. I didn’t give him much thought in the previous books but then in this book, he downright annoyed me. Thirdly, Della and Mirinda are just shallow bitches with big foul mouths. I don’t even like them. They might be all good in the heart or whatever, but I seriously don’t see it. Della does seem to hate everything cause of how unfair life has been to her but I really don’t take it up as an excuse for her behavior. Mirinda is just a hopeless case. I mean why did she have to make poor Perry suffer for that long? I wish Perry had a crush on someone else. Fourthly, I disliked the lack of action in this book. The secrets kept on building and it was like stocking up crackers for the fireworks but then instead of a bang in the end, it was nothing but a dying fizz. There wasn’t much that happened in this book if you come to think of it. Derek was kept in the sidelines whereas in the second book and most of the first he was made out to be the real deal. There was not much meaning to Lucas and Kylie’s relationship other than sucking faces as Della so kindly puts it. Kylie finds out about her real grandparents. A new character comes and dies. Red comes up and becomes the hero. Kylie finds out that she is a lizard. Still hilarious, I know. Nothing significant, now was it? So I’m not sure if I wanna rate it 3. I guess I’ll go for 2.5.

Quite a few things were going on but because there was so much focus on Kylie's boy drama and on her moaning about what sort of supernatural she was, I just lost interest after a few chapters. Kylie was dull — she spent all her time moaning about Lucas/Derek and her powers/identity. She also spent a lot of time bitching about Derek and Lucas' ex's and calling them sluts just because she was a bitter, frigid bitch herself. Worst of all, Kylie was a Mary Sue - she had no less than 3 guys declaring their love for her, her powers were speshul and everyone thought she was a speshul snowflake. There was nothing speshul about her except that she was a speshul kind of stupid. Lucas was a controlling, secretive fucker. I don't think he even likes Kylie all that much he only wants her because she's forbidden since his pack/family don't want him dating anyone but a werewolf and she just so happened to be the only girl dumb enough to swallow all his bullshit. I hated Lucas a lot - I don't how anyone could think he's a good guy when he had sex with Fredericka once and then basically told her to piss off — he knew Fredericka had feelings for him and wanted to date him but he thought it was cool just to use her for her sex and then throw her aside like she wasn't good enough for him. He didn't care about her feelings and wasn't bothered that he hurt her — he's a dick and a douchebag yet he goes around acting like a decent, caring, respectful guy. Derek was a weak bastard — he couldn't handle that Kylie had confusing feelings for Lucas so he dumped her, then abandoned her, then he slept with some other girl a few days later and then he came back and was all over her again..WTF?! He made his decision to fuck off and have sex with his ex — he has no right to interfere in her life again. Kylie's relationship with both Lucas and Derek lacked chemistry, Miranda/Perry's and Holiday/Burnett's relationships made more sense and were far more engaging. Kylie thinks all her love interests ex's are sluts because they had sex with them. She looks down at her best friend because she enjoys sex, she looks down at Ellie for sleeping with Derek even though they were single and had a history together and she had no idea Kylie even existed, she looks down at Fredericka because she had sex with Lucas even though Fredericka was in love with Lucas. She doesn't think Lucas was a slut for sleeping with Fredericka when he didn't have feelings for her and she didn't think badly of Derek sleeping with Ellie when he still had feelings for her. No, her boys can do no wrong when they were the ones who shouldn't have had sex in the first place since they felt nothing for the girls they slept with, yet she thinks Fredericka, Ellie and Sara are the evul whores. Boring plot, rubbish characters and ridiculous romance = A disappointing read. Most of all, I'm sick of Kylie's frigid, Mary Sue, judgmental attitude — she needs to get over herself.

Hunter answers some questions and also gives you knew ones. This book will keep you reading all night, so be warn! The relationship between Kylie and her friends makes me laugh. I think we all have had friend where we can be ourselves around, no matter what. Lucas shows more of his feeling is this book, which I love. But the shocker comes from Derek, you will have to read to find out why! This series is becoming my favorite. C.C. Hunter knows how to make all of her characters loveable. You have to read the other two to understand this book. Which I already highly recommend. So I hope you enjoy the Shadow Falls series I have!!

Found it a lot easier to get into than the other 2 and I had no particular eye-rolling moments. It's not ever gonna be a favourite series but it's an easy read which is exactly what I was in the mood for!

Well, I learnt a lot about kissing... I especially needed to know this since I'm a 30 year old woman. But, seriously except for the accessive kissing this was a good book. It had a lot more mystery surrounding it. I also found myself chuckling quite a few times. And go hot werewolf!

It's strangely interesting that in the 1st book the love triangle is introduced DUN DUN DUN!And in book numeral dos we have the focus on guy number one (Derek)and guy number two (Lucas) is just off in the sidelines. In book 3 we have the focus on Lucas while we don't here very much of Derek. I wonder how book 4 will play out.... Hmmmmmmmmmm.... Then we have the ghost. I figured that the ghost was actually Kylie's grandmother Not too long after the whole ghost was pregnant revelation the lightbulb went DING! I know some of you may think i'm lying about this but I am being entirely truthful. Although I did not guess about the whole real grandparents visiting (but I should get some points for the grandma thing). I did also guess about the whole grandma getting killed by testing but that was an easy one. I kinda wanted to slap Kylie for the fact that she didn't figure it out right away. Now with the identity thing.... I understand that chameleon is just a name but... She better not be an actual lizard! That would just be creepy on many levels! I don't think shes really a lizard but still! And by the way does the picture of her (like the face on the 1st book) remind you of a lizard. It does to me but the may be because of the whole chameleon thing (I didn't notice it until after I saw 'lizard'in the book). And the ending! WHY MUST THERE BE A CLIFFHANGER! I HATE CLIFFHANGERS It's numeral uno for my list of pet peeves I NEED TO KNOW WHO THE GHOST WAS! I NEED IT MORE THAN WATER! I NEED IT MORE THAN SHELTER! I NEED IT MORE THAN CHEESE!!! Okay maybe not that much but the point is.... I NEED TO KNOW! I read the excerpt at the back at the book and it doesn't say anything! Nothing. Nadda. Nyet. *Looks at the sky and raises arms* WHY WORLD?! WHY MUST YOU TORTURE ME SO?! *cries* I apologize to the few of you who read this for wasting precious moments of your time

I don't know how C.C. does it, but she did it again! Just when I don't think her books can get any better they do! I love this little world and characters she has created is pretty much amazing! Ever since the first book I cannot stop thinking about these characters, even long after I'm done reading each of the books. To me that's a sign of a really GREAT author! I wish I had her skills. She takes on quite the roller coaster ride in this book. With the ghost that is warning Kylie that one lives and one dies, to the FRU's 'tests', to the mystery behind who keeps saving her, leaves you with a very exciting read! It was so nice to finally get some answers. Not as much as I would have liked, but hey answers are answers. I'll take any at this point, whether their jaw dropping or not. You see a lot more in the relationship department in this book then you do in the firs two. It was AWESOME! I'm so glad that Perry and Miranda are finally starting to pull it together. It's about time that's all I've gotta say, they were driving me crazy! Kylie's still got her huge dilemma trying to choose between Derek and Lucas. Even though it seems that she's chosen Lucas, Derek's little confession at the end makes me think things are going to be quite interesting in the next book. Personally I'm rooting for Derek. He such an amazing guy. I think Kylie would be lucky to have him. Lucas is good too, but he's just a little too controlling for my taste. And, of course, how could I forget Burnett and Holiday! SQEEEEAAALLL, I love those two! I wish we could have had a little more interaction with them like you do in the second book, but...C.C. Really makes up for it at the end! And what is with the ending?! What does it mean!!!! I need to know now!!!! I CAN'T wait for the next book! And it's still in the writing process! How am I going to get through this wait?! I guess I'm just going to have to read all the books over and over again just to get me through it.

I think my favorite part about this book is that we finally see some of the relationships from the previous novels develop and begin. I highly recommend picking up the previous novels to this series and reading them before Taken at Dusk. Although it’s a great book I don’t think readers will understand or appreciate certain aspects of the story without reading them. I wasn't surprised when I couldn’t put this book down, it was addicting and another great addition to the series! I was thrilled to see more of Lucas and I loved that his character really opened up in this book. (Yeah, I’m Team Lucas!) No need to worry about Derek! Readers will be pleasantly suprised to find out about another surprise involving him. Overall, I think this paranormal series is one of my favorite ones. Kylie is a great example of a real, complicated, yet intriguing character. Hunter does a fanastic job not only building primary, but also secondary characters throughout the novel. I can’t wait to read book number four ! Definitely pick up Taken at Dusk! If you haven't started the Shadow Falls series you're missing out! http://www.boekiesbookreviews.com/201...

She's an awful person when it comes to dating. It's not that she can't decide between the two guys, it's that she gets one and then only wants the other. Then she gets the other and only wants the first one. And because of this manufactured boy drama, she can't be bothered to spend her time alerting adults to her issues, learning how to harness her abilities or protect herself from danger. The world revolves around her easily-bored heart and it's one of the single most annoy things I've ever read.

I felt that a large part of this book was Kylie whining about Lucas and Derek and complaining about Lucas and Derek’s ex girlfriends (Fredericka was more justifiable). And a chameleon, really? It took three books, three books! We finally got to the point of discovering what Kylie is and I’m just, really?!?! Now, Lucas and Derek. I’m losing all patience with these two. I started this series kind of preferring Derek, then Lucas and now I just want them both to leave. Firstly, Lucas is getting on my last nerve. He is so possessive and how he is acting towards Kylie and what she is supernaturally. As if she has control over everything and if she’s not a werewolf it’s her fault. And Derek, with his stupid idiocy. He couldn’t handle that Kylie was struggling with her feelings. Fair enough. However to then do the things he proceeded to do, he made his bed he should lie in it... I’m kind of confused why there was so much focus at the beginning with Kylie’s ‘grandparents’. The first part of the book it was very present, however after that it was just kind of pushed aside until the end of the book. Then we find out that her ‘grandfather’ was actually her grandfather! What?! I just found myself getting so bored and uninterested in this book. It felt like the story wasn’t really getting anywhere, to be honest I wasn’t really sure where it was supposed to be going...

DNFing this series. I can't put myself through this. I love myself too much to keep reading this even though I do want to know what happens/what Kylie is. This plot just keeps going in circles though and my patience can't take no mores. It's like she tried to stretch the plot line of one book into 5 and I am dying of apathy.

To start off, the beginning was a total disappointment. Here I was looking forward to the next book because of how Awake at Dawn left off, but then nothing. I just expected too much because of the last book, but still I wish that the author revealed more, since it has been left a mystery for 3 books so far. I was anticipating for Kylie to tear Derek apart, but yet again...nothing. Like, what the hell is up with this book. This doesn't get really interesting until Perry comes in, and he isn't even a main character. Love that Perry made more appearances in this book. Made me hella like that shape-shifter. It was cool getting to know him and seeing the different sides of him ― a clown (view spoiler)[ that gets tricked into being a white, male cat with blue eyes (so he can't listen to Kylie's conversation because "most male white cats with blue eyes can't hear") (hide spoiler)] , a totally powerful shape-shifting bada** (view spoiler)[ that turns into a dragon when a guy does a jerk thing and pushes Miranda when she rejects him (BTW, could not stop laughing my a** off when Miranda accidentally turns Burnett into kangaroo during the fight and after when he says to Miranda, "You so much as twitch that finger at me again and I'll..." Obviously Burnett won't be getting over that for a while. Anyhow, who do you think was the bigger bada** during the fight? Kylie, Perry, or Burnett?) (view spoiler)[ Also, can't believe that Perry had the balls to ask Kylie to dance when Lucas was right next to her! XD (hide spoiler)] Lucas. I don't really know what to say about him. He is a good-looking guy and all, but he has big family baggage, has a too close relationship with Fredericka (view spoiler)[ a she-wolf who he slept with in the past (hide spoiler)] , and his pack does not approve of their relationship. Definitely makes him a less appealing guy compared to Derek. Besides her problems with Lucas, (view spoiler)[ she is still trying to get over Derek, who seems to have brought someone back along with him ― his ex-girlfriend, Ellie Mason. BTW, loved when Kylie and Ellie get paired together for Meet Your Campmates hour. Totally thought a fight was going to break out or something. I especially liked when Kylie are open to each other and Kylie says straight out, "I know you had sex with Derek"! Epic way to end a chapter! X) I actually started to like the Ellie, as the book went on. She was actually a nice girl and a good friend, who is willing to kick the she-wolf, Fredericka's a** for talking bad about Kylie. Between keeping the fact she healed Sara from cancer a secret or Derek's mom announcing that Derek likes Kylie right after Lucas said that he was Kylie's boyfriend. Don't know what she was struggling with more. (hide spoiler)] Love there ending of this book, even though it leaves me on a total cliffhanger. With all the action and drama of losing someone, getting attacked by a supernatural gang (view spoiler)[ When Red (a.k.a Roberto) goes to the school, got a little confused at that part. Also, I like how the author redeems Red when he saves Kylie from the supernatural gang. Made me feel a little bad that he died. Here are the positives:There was something driving the plot of the novel at least half the time. The disappearance of Kylie's grandparents was forgotten, but there was the occasional visit from Red and the threat of things trying to kill her. When it came up that her boyfriend might be controlling her, Kylie demonstrated the presence and use of .5 brain cells by getting worried about it. Then the entire book passed by without a comment. Well, that was the praise. This was just as badly written, badly plotted, and easily poked at as the other two books. From panties on fire to so much soda that it drowns an Italian fish. Some of the unintentionally hilarious lines in this book can't be made up. We finally find out what Kylie is! Are you ready? A chameleon. Came right out of the book. The way I read it, she can transform into whatever supernatural being she wants, with their brain pattern and powers. So she's not a real chameleon. She's just your average Mary Sue in a sea of girls coming out of Hogwart's sorta-secret Sparklypoo house. Characterization is still poor. Now that I have saved you about a 1,000 pages of reading just to find out what she is, let's move on, shall we. I'm not sure I've seen them do much campy stuff at this camp. You've got your basics of getting up and going to bed, Campmate Hour, the occasional campfire, and eating meals. Does my mind skip over that Kylie participating in activities or exercises meant to foster better relationships between the different groups of supernaturals? It's always about her love drama or her friends' love drama or someone trying to kill/kidnap Kylie or scenes meant to fluff up the book. The most boring bs ever! The book tends to make a lot of funny word choices. I mean borderline problematic. Fredericka, the werewolf who loves Lucas and hates Kylie, is called a she-wolf, reducing her from a person to an animal. I've seen multiple times where Kylie referred to her boy toys as "sexy as sin" or something along those lines. Why do you want to compare boys to sins, like really. There appears to be a quota for unfortunate implications in this series because there's a new one every book. This time, we have a character, one of Kylie's love interests, used to have sex with. She is as sweet as can be and never treats Kylie or her friends badly, but Della calls her a slut and the other girls don't exactly object. When the three of them decided to befriend the character, I felt sorry for her(I really did). She deserves better than people who call her names behind her back. I really thought the series grew out of the slut shaming, but apparently now. So they're friends, her interest in Derek is no more, and was caught in Kylie the Mary Sue's trap. Now she's dead. Yeah, calling a female character a slut for having sex with one of Kylie's love interests when Kylie was hardly speaking to him anymore, and then killing her off later. That's a bitch move. Then we have Kylie, who is a pretty terrible person, being compared to Mother Teresa multiple times with narrative support of characters from all different perspectives complimenting her. What a way to insult the legacy of Mother Teresa: compare her to a judgmental teenager who sees other girls as rivals, slut shames rampantly, and is overall a narrow-minded bucket of vomit. Mother Teresa was not perfect, but she's far above Kylie's level. I think I might not read the next book, Whispers at Moonrise. This is my cat-scratch series and also something terrible that makes me appreciate the good books more, but now it's showing signs of improvement. It was only a baby step forward, but that's not good enough. When you follow a horrible series solely because it's horrible, why keep following it when it starts to improve? Same old shtick here: fans will love it, those who don't won't, etc. At least there was some improvement. Maybe that will make me stay away next time.

So that's the big mystery of the book. That and Kylie needs someone to shadow her everywhere she goes because of strange things happening to her when she is alone. Kylie is very much interested in finding out exactly what she is and also who she wants to be with. We do finally get some answers in this book, but wait! There is another in the series. This was a decent read and I'm sure I'll pick up book 4. I just wish they were a little more exciting for me to consider it a real page turner. I mean, I turned the pages, but with less eagerness and not so much of a "i've got to know know" feeling.
