Her tragic murder, at the young age of twenty-three, stripped the world of her talent and boundless potential, her tightly knit family of their beloved angel, and her husband, Chris Perez, of the greatest love he had ever known. For over a decade, Chris held on to the only personal thing he had left from his late wife: the touching and sometimes painful memories of their very private bond. Now, for the first time, Chris opens up about their unbreakable friendship, forbidden relationship, and blossoming marriage, which were cut short by Selena’s unforgivable death. Chris’s powerful story gives a rare glimpse into Selena’s sincerity and vulnerability when falling in love, strength and conviction when fighting for that love, and absolute resilience when finding peace and normalcy with her family’s acceptance of the only man she called her husband. While showcasing a side of Selena that has never been disclosed before and clarifying certain misconceptions about her life and death, To Selena, with Love is an everlasting love story that immortalizes the heart and soul of an extraordinary, unforgettable, and irreplaceable icon.

I was only five when Selena died--too young to know her while she was still living--but as a kid, I discovered the movie with Jennifer Lopez and I fell in love with the music and with the story of a girl and a family who came out of nothing and became stars. And "Dreaming of You" is one of my favorite songs of all time. As I got older, I became more and more interested in Selena and her life, and who she was as a person. Everything you read about her is just so glowing, and to know that her life was cut short when she had so much to offer is unspeakably sad. I felt for her family, of course, since it was a family band and business, but the person I wondered most about was her husband, Chris. Their love story captivated me. I always wanted to know about their life together, and now after all these years, Chris has been kind enough to give that to us. What I loved about this book is that it gives us a glimpse into Selena as a person, as she was seen by someone who cared about her. There were so many little tidbits in here that I've wondered about for a long time, and it was so fun to read about the development of the relationship between her and Chris. I'd recommend it to any of her fans, especially if you're like me, and always wanted to know that Chris ended up okay. We owe him a big thank you for sharing these memories.

Last night I burned through the remaining 200 pages of the book To Selena, With Love written by Chris Perez. It might be because I grew up listening to her music, because I vaguely remember seeing her all over Telemundo when I was at my grandmothers house, or because I remember seeing the movie based on her life in theaters (I was very young), but while finishing this book last night, I struggled to keep it together and eventually I cried over the loss of this amazing woman. Today would have been Selena Quintanilla’s 41st birthday had she not been shot and killed on March 31st, 1995. For those of you who may not know of her, Selena was a Tejano superstar singer from Corpus Christi, Texas who grew up on the road with her family/band Los Dinos which was managed by her father, Abraham Quintanilla. She was known for many hit songs, among them: “Como La Flor”, “Bidi Bidi Bom Bom”, “Amor Porhibido” and my personal favorite, her cover of “Tu Solo Tu”. She was also infamous for her eccentric costumes, her winning smile and her generous actions. The book, written by her lead Guitarist who would later become her husband, is a remarkable tell-all account of the relationship between Quintanilla and Perez, dating back to their first encounter with one another when they flew back from a gig in Alcapulco, to the very last time he saw his beloved wife. If you have seen the movie Selena (1997) then you are only somewhat familiar with her career and her personal life because this book delves into the singers persona through personal accounts so well that only after reading it can you truly see who the real Selena was. I loved the honesty that Perez filled the pages of this book with. It was as if he was telling me these stories to my face. He could describe Selena’s voice, body and character so accurately and it was easy to visualize the stories within this book. You understood what Perez was trying to emphasize, what he really wanted people to take from this book. You felt his nervousness and frustration towards Abraham at the start of Chris and Selena’s, at the time, secret relationship. You saw the words he used to describe his love for Selena practically burning with passion on the page. You laughed out loud when he told stories of their adventures on motorcylcles or how they managed to keep 5 dogs, a snake, a mouse and an entire aquarium in their home without losing it. And you felt the extreme emptiness he felt after her untimely death so sharply that your heart ached. The fact that after 17 years he was able to recount his precious memories and publish them for her fans, and for himself, says a lot about him and I respect that. This book gave me a greater understanding of who Selena was. While reading these 304 pages she transformed from my vision of her as just a Tejano music icon into an actual person. At times I even heard her laughter through the pages, a sound that I can only imagine to be as beautiful and passionate as her voice. I recommend this book to all fans of Selena, to music lovers, to Mexican-Americans such as myself, or anyone interested in reading about a beautiful woman inside and out whos life and talent was taken away from us way too soon. Selena was an extremely talented woman who I now know to be an extremely loving, caring and inspiring person who, had she been allowed more time on this Earth, absolutely would have revolutionized the music industry and the world more than she already has. Happy Birthday Selena, we are Dreaming of You.

Throughout the years, I’ve often thought about Chris Perez and the aftermath of what he must have emotionally and physically endured after Selena’s death. When I caught wind of his upcoming book, my curiosity was peaked. I must admit that while the book is cloaked in Selena, it is really as much about Chris as well. It is my hope that readers embrace his willingness to allow free access into an area of his life that he could have left private forever. Told from the vantage point of one who “quietly observes from the fringes”, Chris lets the reader know point blank what both he and Selena agonizingly endured by living out their forbidden romance. The pictures he paints of Abraham’s despise reveal many hurtful moments that most persons would not have tolerated. But Chris prevailed, and does so still today in the face of truth as told from his perspective. A point that Chris articulates well is that he fell in love with the “real” Selena. And that is the Selena he presents page by page, word by word. The examples he shares are intimate and simplistic, yet bring an extraordinarily powerful presence to Selena’s memory. This is not an easy task and Chris must be commended for letting his authentic spirit vividly recall the eternal love of his life. I connected with many of the childhood memories Chris shared partly because we are from the same city and age range, but mostly because our economic backgrounds were similar. I found myself laughing when he mentioned his mom loving 55KTSA because my mom did as well. So much so, that I have pictures of me as a child covered in 55KTSA buttons and clothing she made for a radio sponsored contest! I felt deep sadness in moments when Chris discusses being deemed unworthy of Selena’s affections. To me, this must have worn heavily on his core sense of self. Chris, however, ultimately transcends those feelings and comes to a place of assured certainty in both his love for Selena and of her love for him! So many moments are retold with such precision that brief flashes of the Selena movie played in my brain. I especially enjoyed seeing Selena’s playful nature highlighted as one of her best attributes. Chris will make you cry when retelling the painful moments of Selena’s death and his reactions that followed. The tear-jerker moment for me (and there were many) is his attempt at preserving her scent after her death. I won’t reveal the details but warn you that you better have a box of tissue nearby. Ultimately, this book is about the resurrection of Chris Perez and his “struggle to find meaning in life again”. It is about freeing himself from the walls of his grief and deciding to return to the land of the living. This book is his “best I can” moment. “I love you, Christopher,” Selena said. She always used my full name whenever things were serious or intense between us. “Let’s never let anything between us change. Promise?” Her voice was as solemn as I’d ever heard it. “I promise,” I said, and told her how much I loved her, too. “I don’t know what I’d do if I ever lost you,” I confessed. Chris Perez wrote a book, for Selena, and that’s how the story really ends.

Chris Perez's purpose in writing "To Selena, With Love" was to give everyone a piece of their life. Chris Perez wanted to give his personal perspective on Selena. Another purpose could be that, he wanted to present a side of Selena to her fans so that they knew that she was just like everyone else. In an interview he did with CNN news, he said he was comfortable putting her life into a book. He said himself that he wanted to share her life, their life, together. Perez's purpose was to unwind and Chris Perez's purpose in writing "To Selena, With Love" was to give everyone a piece of their life. Chris Perez wanted to give his personal perspective on Selena. In an interview he did with CNN news, he said he was comfortable putting her life into a book. He said himself that he wanted to share her life, their life, together. Perez's purpose was to unwind and let go of suppressed feelings he's had for years. To Selena, With love isn't a novel where you can relate. It is a good book, but it's nothing that'll leave a lasting impact. Sure, the book will leave you in a state of "awe", but that's because the book is filled with different types of emotions. This novel offers an arrange of emotions ranging from historical laughter, to having you on the edge of your seat ready to cry. "Abraham looked at me with dull eyes and said, 'Selena passed away, Chris. She's dead. She was shot and she's dead." (p. 266) Perez previously states how he basically hated himself for awhile for even letting Selena go to a motel with someone he had never really trusted in the first place. The greatest strengths of the book was how the author could draw almost any reaction out of you. Chris Perez surely does have a way with words. He described Selena right down to the "T". As for weaknesses, I found nothing wrong with the novel. Maybe a few spelling errors here and there, but otherwise it was a fantastic novel to read. Once you pick up this book you will never want to put it down. Once the book ends, you will be filled with enraged sadness because you don't want it to end. Perez took this novel to a whole other level. He went into full-on detail about every aspect in their life from the first day he met her. "When we lose people who who are precious to us, we all have to grieve in our own ways." (p. 4) This novel is good for anybody who can relate to losing a loved one. I can say I related to both Chris and Selena in this novel. Chris was forbidden from seeing/keeping in contact with Selena but he defied authority (Selena's father) and he was given the cold shoulder. I've never been in that particular situation but I have been restricted from getting/doing something. "I don't know what's going on with you guys, but whatever it is, it stops right now." (p. 73) I related to Selena because, Selena was the baby of the family and everyone was super protective over her. I am not the baby of the family but I am the only girl, which means I am watched like a hawk...by everyone. At first I can honestly say I found the book just a tad bit boring, but about 2-3 pages in I was instantly in love with it I was too young to even know or care about Selena Quintanilla, but when I saw her movie (acted out by Jennifer Lopez) I instantly became infatuated with her. I had to have watched that movie a good 5 times and listen to all of her music ever created. In my personal opinion, this book has taught me the lesson of "Don't judge a book by it's cover". Before even reading the book or seeing the movie, an aundance of people would talk about her and I would say "who is that?" When I found out, Selena's husband had written a book about her I HAD to have it. This book brought out every emotion you could ever possibly think of. This is a wonderful book. I have reread this novel over 10 times, I just love the book that much I would most definitely recommend this book to someone. I would even recommend it to someone who has never even heard of Selena Quintanilla-Perez.

I was just beginning to learn Spanish in school when Selena was murdered back in 1995. I remembered hearing a story or two about "The Mexican Madonna" before her passing, but never heard her music. At the time, I didn't know Spanish and just wasn't interested. I was sad to discover that the same person singing was the one who I'd read about not long before as the details of her murder became national news. Those two songs introduced me to Selena, the artist, and Spanish music. Since becoming a fan, I've seen the movie and read another bio about her, so much of what was contained in here was no surprise. What was interesting about it, though, was the outsider's perspective. Chris Perez was an outsider in the Quintanilla family in many respects. He was not accepted by Abraham as a suitable boyfriend/husband for Selena until Selena and Chris decided to elope and force the issue of their relationship. There were a couple of surprises. I had no idea, for example, that the rest of the Quintanilla family and the Dinos basically turned their backs on Chris at one point. They wanted to avoid dealing with Abraham's temper as the relationship came to light despite the fact they'd been supportive beforehand. I was also surprised by the fact Selena herself had revealed Yolanda showed her a gun prior to that fateful meeting March 31st. Overall, Chris Perez has written a moving and engaging account of his life with The Queen of Tejano music and the aftermath of her murder. You feel his emotions and I couldn't help but smile as he shares a few details of his life now, having pulled himself out of a grief that looked as thought it may destroy him.

I read this book because I’ve been a Selena fan for almost 20 years and wanted to learn more about the person behind the image. Before I detail my thoughts on this book, let me first describe what Selena means to me. Selena entered my life on the day that she died. Before I detail my thoughts on this book, let me first describe what Selena means to me. Selena entered my life on the day that she died. Because I was home sick that day, I caught a glimpse of the tragic news on the television programs I normally did not watch. Then, in the days that followed, I saw tributes to Selena which were ubiquuous in Texas, where I lived at the time. People expressed their sorrow with signage and banners on their cars, homes, trees and poles. Mainstream radio stations played her music and her voice captured me. A few months later, I read an article about how Chris Perez was coping with his loss. That’s when I became totally enmeshed with her. She was the same age as me and like me, had brown skin and black hair. Yet, she didn’t let racism thwart her ambition. She had accomplished so much, influenced so many, and had a plethora of plans for the future. I, on the other hand, was in a dark place in my own life. At the time, I hated my job, was confused about my goals, avoided my community, and worst of all, attracted a dreary set of peers. But I believe in death, from the other world, Selena resurrected me. Through listening to all her songs and reading about her, I purged all the negative energy from my spirit. I rewrote my job description, surrounded myself with energetic and positive people and not only got involved with the community, but climbed my way into a leadership position. It’s 18 years later, and my find myself in another valley, but after reading this book, I realized that Selena never turned 40, never had children and never got to actualize her dreams in life. But I still can. Now, about this book. I gave it an average rating because while it filled in a lot of gaps about Selena’s life, it didn’t grip me as I hoped it would. Maybe I’ve grown older and wiser and find it difficult to relate to Selena’s non-stop energy, impulsive behavior, and what I perceive as self-centeredness. For example, when Chris said he contemplated leaving Los Dinos to pursue his own interest in rock music, she threatened to leave him. While Chris wrote that he got over this, I thought it was manipulative, domineering and selfish on her part. Maybe he agreed to it at the time and today justifies it due to her tragic death, but had she still been alive, how long would anyone be able to put up with something like this? Second, when he discussed her buying dog after dog after dog, I thought it was immature and indulgent. If she wanted something, she got it; if she wanted to do something (like ride motorcycle), she did it—without thinking it through. Perhaps that works for a 20-something music star, but at some point, life teaches you that you can’t splurge on whatever you want, whenever you want and that not everything you do has a positive outcome. Unfortunately, Selena was robbed from living and could not gain this wisdom. Having said this, I think there was more to Selena than what Chris has shared in this book. I think she did have extensive wisdom, maturity and depth than what was described in these pages. I understand that Chris is a private person and is not obligated to share his deepest thoughts and feelings about Selena. Still, his antedotes and stories only touched the surface. I just shared how Selena changed me. I wish Chris had provided a more in-depth account of how Selena changed him. Sure, he does state that she changed him into a more loving person. But what I would have wanted to know more in-depth is: • How he was before he met Selena. For example, he mentions having girlfriends, but not experiencing anything deep. Well, what was that like? Why was he that way? How did his parents’ divorce and upbringing influence him? • What was it about Selena that changed him? Her forgiveness and understanding isn’t sufficient. Because of his parents’ divorce and humble beginnings, he had to have had trust issues. How did Selena change that. • How he dealt with the tragedy in terms of his emotions and actions. He mentions heavy drinking, drugs, depression and going crazy. But what were his days like? How was Selena’s family, who lived right next door, toward him? Did he contemplate killing himself? Did he go back to his old ways? Did he lose his zest for life? • How then did he come out of these dark days? How did Selena (in death) influence him? Again, he does mention the band he started, getting remarried and having kids. But I would have liked to hear more. How does his life with Selena influence him in the way he raises his children? Does he mention Selena to them? What about the mother of his children? I think her name is Vanessa and they’re now divorced. Did his life with Selena shadow and eventually end their marriage? Finally, how does he think Selena would have been today, had she not been killed? I am glad I read the book and by no means has it made me think less of Chris or Selena. I’m just saying I would like to have had more. It would have only strengthen Selena’s legacy.

I literally finished this book in 1 day! You just have to be a Selena fan, to understand it! So, I can only imagine how hard it was for him to write it, alone, get through it! Through reading this book, not only was their relationship a true love story going against all odds, but most importantly real and normal, a relationship that went through ups and downs while they dated & married. U can tell they were best friends and did everything together...Sooooo sweet how their relationship was! Not giving anything away...but from what he wrote, she lived everyday on the edge and did what she wanted to do as if she knew she wouldn't be on this earth long...she lived performed, loved, and played hard! She really lived life each day as if it were her last! I looooved this book, you can take a lot away from it! Powerful emotions......you can tell the loss of selena still pains him, but I know all of the fans will admire his honesty & courage it took to write about his time with her. And should be thanked for sharing, because at the end of the day he didn't have to. Anyone that is a Selena fan should read this book. Its definitely worth it, won't regret reading it! ;)

Selena Quintanilla-Pérez was only twenty-three years old when her life as a popular singer was cut short by an obsessed former friend. This true crime novel documents the whole case, but it's more-so a book about how Selena's family and colleagues coped with the tragedy and how they were able to move on.

She was very popular in the Latin culture and was soon going to release an English crossover album. A driven 23 year old who had a lot more to give, but was taken away too soon. I can't erase this lonely heart that keeps on remembering. Every day I live, I live with you, and with all the things we'll never do. Heaven holds a place for souls like mine. Try to leave my troubled past behind. You know it's so damn hard letting go.. Standing here, holding my heart in my hands Yes, I am.. Trying to live every day the best I can. To Selene, With Love is written from her husband's, Chris Perez, perspective. After more than a decade, he finally breaks his silence about what happened not only on the day of her death; but prior to that as well. He shares his most intimate moments that are too heartbreaking to read at times. We had every intention of living happily ever after. Nobody could stop us from doing that now. We fell back into bed and wrapped our arms around each other, still amazed at our good fortune. Selena was always smiling, whether it was on stage, appearances or during an interview. I never expected to read about her breaking out. It was a reality check for me. Her life wasn't as easy as she made it seem. She had no childhood pretty much, always on the road and performing wherever they were welcomed. Her father, Abraham, saw talent in his kids and decided to pursue it. Yes, it had a magnificent outcome, but they paid the price. Especially Selena since she was the youngest. When she found love it wasn't as beautiful as most of us have it. Chris was brought into the band by Selena's brother, A.B- who was scouting a new guitar player for the band. You never know which decision you make are going to be the big ones-even when they're seemingly small as deciding to play a musical instrument.. Her father objected to it many times, making it impossible for Selena and Chris to freely love one another. They would have to meet secretly because if Abraham found out they were together, he swore to break the band up. When someone calls you "the cancer" of their family, would you still be willing to be a part of their family? Chris was more than willing. Chris was very much aware of Selena's fame and money, yet, he wasn't moved by it. He was moved by the woman who played pranks on her band members. The woman who loved a good laugh, was adventurous, independent, stubborn to get her way..she had stolen his heart and he wasn't going to let her go. No one can tell you who you're allowed to love, so Selena took matters into her own hands and married Chris. Abraham had no choice but to finally accept it. Just as everything seemed to be falling into place, tragedy hits.. I wanted to protect my family. It didn't turn out that way, of course. I wasn't able to protect Selena. I felt for Chris, terribly. I cried just like I did 18 years ago. Chris never really opened up about how he felt and what he did to cope with her death, now we know. For the longest time, I kept that bag of Selena's clothes. I would poke a hole in it now and then squeeze the bag so that I could smell her perfume. On March 31st 1995, we lost an amazing singer who had the heart of gold. An incredible woman who was always willing to help those in need. Who could make you laugh with her contagious laughter. An open hearted woman who just by talking to her you felt as if you've known her your whole life. *** Chapter 13 was the hardest chapter I've EVER had to read. I thank Chris for writing this book. It must have been hard to recall the past but he felt he owed it to her fans. We appreciate it so much! Selena poured her heart out on stage. She always gave it her all. She sang live making you feel her energy and her emotions. If you're curious to hear how incredibly talented Selena was, look for Selena The Last Concert. You can also watch the movie, Selena. I also suggest you hear the following songs, just to name a few; Captive Heart Is it the beat? I Could Fall in Love Missing My Baby and Dreaming of You..which she recorded 2 days before she was murdered.

I'm so glad that Chris Perez wrote about his and Selena's time together. He covers a bit of background on himself and Selena's family so that definitely a nice bonus that helped us [the readers] get to know him better. This is very useful for those who aren't familiar with him. You can tell this is a love letter to his Selena because the cover design reads as a letter one would put on a gift. How romantic he is!! All of my emotions were hit in this book, which I wasn't fully expecting from him as an author. It goes to show how much time and care Chris put into this book. Honestly I feel blessed that he wrote this story not only for his wife but her fans too. He didn't have to share any of his love story with the fans since we're strangers, but he wanted us to know the amazing person his wife truly was and not just the equally amazing singer and person seen on stage, interviews, and Coca-Cola commercials. Their love was one I always hoped to have when I was younger and yes it is that inspirational. Reading this book I can't help but thank them both for their music and sharing their love with all of us who are lucky enough to get a glimpse into it through getting book. I'll definitely be getting my own copy of this book because I can't imagine a more perfect memoir. This has quickly become one of my all time favorite books.

I lived in Florida in 1994 and 1995. Even though I was an LDS missionary at the time and didn't listen to radio or music at all... Selena's music seemed to be playing everywhere. I'm glad Chris didn't paint a completely perfect picture of her and their life... but that's about as close as it gets. The book could have been written before the movie (made in 1997), as the movie plot seems true to the movie story line in almost every way. By the way, I thought it was a great family movie. Like so many millions of people, I really like Selena's music. Not only did she have amazing musical talent, but a sweetness and way of connecting with people that has created fans who will always love her and miss her. I am very sorry for Chris and Selena's family who have been deprived of her ongoing presence in this life, but I am ever hopeful of the enduring nature of family relationships beyond this life. Although it is a tragic story, it's wonderful to think of the lasting impact Selena had on music and on her fans... not everyone who dies tragically gets to leave so loved and appreciated.

Even though this book is categorized as an autobiography, it's not really an autobiography of Chris Perez's life. To Selena, With Love chronicles his life with the late Queen of Tejano, Selena. It's been 17 years since Selena was killed and a lot of people are wondering why Chris has waited so long to write a book. Basically, he wasn't ready to share his memories of Selena. I believe a lot of her fans (and this is true of any artist) forget there was more to her than just what was shown onstage. She was just like everyone else. She had highs and lows, good and bad days. This book gives an amazing account of Selena and Chris's relationship. From the first time he'd heard of Selena, joining the band, their secret relationship, eloping, to the last time he seen his wife alive. To Selena, With Love was an amazing book from the first page to the last. Chris did an amazing job projecting his feelings in this book. I think anyone, whether you are a Selena fan or not, will enjoy this book.

I really appreciated the look into the real Selena, and not just the star. It was so special to read about how she and Chris fell in love and all that they endured to be together - and it was also wonderful to learn more about Chris himself. We all know this story has a sad ending, but Chris has honored Selena's life and her fans by sharing such a precious look at a Selena we've never fully known before. A wonderful and lovely read.

Even though I was only 4 months old when Selena passed away, my childhood was surrounded with her music and I became an absolute fan! I am very proud of the book and I am glad that Chris Perez wrote the book. It was something the fans wanted and something he needed to do after so many years, capture the short but love filled years he had along his wife Selena. The book is obviously written with emotions that Chris felt while he lived his life with Selena, from love felt moments to moments of anger. Even though everyone knows how the story of Selena ends unfortunately, Chris' emotions in the book make you continue to keep reading even though we all know the sad truth. I felt the last two chapters as he describes the last month of Selena's unexpected death and the months following for Chris the most interesting. Maybe it was because he never really talked about Selena's death before. He describes falling into a deep depression and having to use drugs and alcohol as an escape to his sad truth, fortunately Chris recovers as he describes that his music along with Selena resurrected him because he felt as he was dead along with her. The ending was the best and I was literally in tears when Chris closes this book saying, "Selena, I'm still dreaming of you." I truly recommend the book, especially if you are a Selena fan. It won't disappoint you one bit.

When I first heard of Selena, it was through the film adaptation about her life. It still shocks me that she had to die so young, but I think her voice will continue to inspire people around the world. I was 2 years old when she passed away. I love Selena. I wish she did not have to die the way she did, and I hope her music inspires the world. I was heart broken when he talked about her and who she was. She sounded like a truly honest, kind-hearted woman of that time. The movie really followed all the points that she shared with the fans in this book. Overall, an emotional read.

This book surprised me. First off Chris did not use a ghost writer. He wrote this book and he did a beautiful job. The book is really one big love letter to the life he shared with Selena. It's cruel they didn't get to live on their farm and have babies together. You have to have a heart of stone to not cry when he describes being alone in the funeral home with her in an open casket. My heart hurt for him. I've never known grief like that. I'm happy I read this book. I'm happy Chris wrote it. I'm sure Selena is happy for him too.

I cry during very few books. Rarely do words on a page literally move me to tears. However, during the last thirty or so pages of 'To Selena, With Love' I was struggling to read what was right in front of me because my eyes were flooding. I remember watching the movie about Selena when I was very young. Even then I remember loving her music and being so sad about what happened. Naturally, I was curious to read this book and finally hear what Chris had to say about Selena and the terrible tragedy. I cry during very few books. His memories are so beautifully put together you feel like you're watching a little movie in your head. There were times where I was frustrated, times where I was cracking up, and as I mentioned before, times where I was sobbing like a baby. I have always looked up to Selena to a certain degree, and this book just increased my love for her. It showed that the good nature everyone saw in her was not forced or fake. She was merely just a beautiful person who was living out her dream. Even to people who know nothing about Selena, you will get some lessons from this book. Lessons about how to treat the people you love, lessons about what to truly care about in your life, what fights are worth fighting and which ones are worth letting go. It's a remarkable story. Devastating, yes. But remarkable.

Like most of America, I didn't know who Selena was until after her death in 1995. When my husband and I were dating, her song "Dreaming of You" was on our personal playlists to each other (when playlists consisted of recording a song from the radio or a CD to a blank cassette). Since Selena's death, Chris Perez has fulfilled his own musical career and journey, remarried, and had children. Even with all this success, you can tell that Chris still misses Selena. You'll need tissues for the last two chapters; all in all a great tribute to his first love.

I will admit that I've been a semi-Selena fan. I absolutely loved the movie that was made when I was 11 years old and that was what got me into her. I was a huge fan of Selena when I was growing up. I was only five when she passed away. When I found out Chris had written their story I knew I had to read it, I decided to read the book in Spanish because I knew that a true love story like theirs needed to be in Spanish. When I read it, there was parts where I cried and parts when I realized that Selena was an actual person not just my favorite singer. It was a great insight to reading Chris' side of the story. Nicely written tribute to the singer...This book reflects on the blossoming attraction and relationship between Selena and her bandmate and husband, Chris Perez. I wasn't sure if I wanted to read this but the reviews I read were all very good. I wasn't disappointed. I remember when Selena was killed and it was heart-wrenching. This was a beautifully told story from the side the public didn't see. My heart goes out to Chris Perez and the entire Quintanilla family. Such a tragedy but so many parts of this story made me smile. Thank you Chris Perez for sharing.
