Twist cottage contains two mini stories to introduce younger readers to the writtine of Anthony Horowitz. The first, Twist Cottage, follows a young boy, Ben, and his father as they embark on a new life with a wicked step-mother. The move takes them away from their home in Bath to a small cottage in the middle of the woods. But this house has a past, and few who enter are seen again. A young spoilt girl, Harriet's father suddenly goes bankrupt and is forced to send his daughter to live with a friend at his restaurant. But this restaurant isn't all that it seems, and neither is Harriet's dream. This book was a strange one as I enjoyed the first story and thought it was quite engaging an interesting, but I didn't like the second and didn't really see the horror in it, partially because I found Harriet very irritating and thus unengaging. I think this book would be a good quick read for young readers who are interested in the horror genre, but it really wasn't for me.

twist cottage was a good, play script, it was about a family who go to a cottage and it is haunted apperently, they dont believe the people and till the girl does research on the house, every owner of this place has died.

Quite a mysterious horror story and surprisingly rather good! The storyline was backed up well, making the horror even greater.

2/7 2014 I did not enjoy this book because it was just like any other horror movie or book, i rated it low because it was very predictable, boring and typical, near the end I actually thought to myself its not a dream and it was real life and she was about to get cooked and eaten. I don't recommend this book for big readers maybe someone looking for something little to read. I want to read a book that i can't see whats coming, a book with twists and unexpected turns. Very short. Most of the book was filled with ads for other novels. I preferred Twist Cottage. Liked the story and how the true evil of the woman came out through time. The second one was a bit too abstract. I thought he pulled off the bratty, spoiled rich girl very well. Overly, only three stars for it's length and content.

I'm not sure whether Horowitz wanted to write an anti-feminist pair of short stories, but that's what has been written! Both of them have a female subject who seems to be quite bossy and dominant in the family, and then they come to gory deaths!

A little sinister holiday reading. I have to say both stories were predictable - but that's because I'm way outside the reading age for this book.....and my nine year old wasn't impressed but he was scared by this - yes we're our own book club. All in all a scary for the age group book.
