The first thing to recommend this paranormal romance is the universe/set-up and concept - No vampires, demons, werewolves or witches here and what a refreshing change that is! Our heroine Dani is a Resurrectionist - murdered and her unborn child ripped from her womb by her husband's jealous mistress, Dani was allowed a second shot at life to right the wrongs of unlawful killings - She can bring a victim back and take the soul of the murderer in exchange. Other than the slightly OTT melodrama of her own death this gets a big thumbs up from me - original concept and I also like Dani as a heroine, she's strong, capable and yet manages a vulnerability too. The hero of the piece is her protector Sam - he's a cop who works with her and gives her energy and support. Not bad as heroes go, a little too perfect but you can definitely see why Dani likes him. The main drive of this is excellent - its plotty - there's a big bad brewing, and the romance element is neatly tied in, but that all goes to pot at the end, where the romance takes over to the exclusion of the plot. Nothing is resolved, but more than that I didn't like the way the romance was concluded either - it was too easy and not enough was explained - like why the dark should so fear these two getting together. Are they really old souls reunited? Thing is I cared - I liked both the characters and what there was of the story but the ending really left me hanging. Would love to see more stories in this universe though, maybe picking up where this one left off.

Pros: I really liked this book! It had a strong, likable heroine and a sexy hero, great action, supernatural elements, and fantastic pacing. Fans of Laurell K. Hamilton's Anita Blake series (and I'm one of them) should definitely enjoy The Resurrectionist. It has some similar elements, though this book has its own flare. Cons: Because of the fast pacing, I felt like I was stumbling into the middle of a series and playing catch-up. I wish there had been a little more relationship development between the hero and heroine and more of an explanation for the minor character, Burton. I would certainly recommend this book.

I realize I am only part way through the book but I am really liking it. I read a sample and knew it had my attention. It is not your normal paranormal romance...the idea is this...if someone is murdered and there is a body, and the murderer is known and in custody, our heroine after jumping though legal hoops, has the ability to bring back the murder victims, using the murderers' life, while dark forces are trying to destroy her. I like that it is different and although I have not finished it, I realize I am only part way through the book but I am really liking it. I read a sample and knew it had my attention. I leaned towards three and a half stars, but the more I’ve thought about it, the more I admire the author’s ambition to do something different and thought-provoking, so I decided to bump it up to four. Dani, killed in vile, violent fashion is brought back to life and given the power to resurrect other crime victims. Dani’s been through a lot, as a result, she’s tough talking and tough acting, but she has a heart and a sarcastic sense of humor, in other words, she makes a great damaged heroine. Dani’s been through a lot, as a result, she’s tough talking and tough acting, but she has a heart and a sarcastic sense of humor, in other words, she makes a great damaged heroine. She finds the ideal guy for her in Sam, a protector, who knows when to take a step back. There isn’t a huge amount of conflict keeping these two apart, I found their romance fairly light on tension, but I did like them together. As far as plot, it was refreshing to read something new and imaginative rather than the same old vampires or werewolves, and it was well-thought out, too, like how this wasn’t some underground endeavor, the resurrections had to go through the judicial system. I also appreciated that the book didn’t shy away from difficult or controversial subject matter; you don’t find a lot of paranormal romances daring to go anywhere near things like assisted suicide. I received this through a Goodreads giveaway.

Overall this was a very different book, which drew me in. I loved the premise, the characters and the overall story. But about halfway through it just got tiresome, no progress was being made in the romance or much of the actual storyline. By then end I obviously had to keep reading to see what happened and the last several chapters romance and storyline progression made up for the middle slowness.

There's a really good and interesting story buried somewhere in there: a sci-fi with a romantic twist. The execution left me puzzled, like playing chess with balls of dough. The lead character is annoying as hell, a bully and completely confusing. Is she mellow or is she not? We really don't know because she doesn't know. "Turrible."

Different take on paranormal, not the same old vampire or werewolf. I liked the first person story, though that's usually not my thing. I was able to get into it. *spoiler* the heroine is able to bring murder victims back to life and send the killer to the other side, which I thought was really interesting. It was also very fun, snarky and sexy.

Intense good versus evil (the dark) story which is fun at the same time. Author's voice is right up there with Darynda Jones. The unique "profession" the protagonist has been chosen for is both thought-provoking and frightening. The romance is infused with sexual tension, and the tough-chick heroine manages to remain sympathetic throughout the story. Check it out!

I really enjoyed this book, the writing was fun, easy and just flowed. The best part of this book was the plot it was fresh and unique, defiantly not the same old same old. Will defiantly be on the lookout for more books by Sierra Woods.
