The books starts with the Critter family at a parade. The parade has lots of instruments. This peaked brothers interest and he ended up buying drums and joining a rock-and-roll band. This book was okay. I personally would not pick this out for my classroom because I think there are better options.

I would read this simple story to older elementary students to explain how different stories can have similar elements in them. I would want my students to compare this story to Goldilocks and the Three Bears. I would use a simple story like this to make the task less daunting.

Teachers can always make simple instrumetns as well ahead of time if ressources are not avaviable at your school.l Talk with the children about the different ones you bring in to the class room. Have children share and take turns experimenting with ways to make sounds the find appeling with the instruments. Things like tamborines, maraccas adn small drums would br great for pre school age children.

Another Mercer Mayer book that all my kids enjoyed. My 5 yr old just adores Mayer and requests her books constantly. I read them at the breakfast or lunch table and even my 3 yr old twins get into them. We love trying to find the mouse and spider that seems to follow the main character around, they’re always doing silly things. Fun engaging themes that any child can relate to, a great addition to any children's library.

Wasn't sure how to begin finding books for my preschool Music theme, but this popped out while I was looking for Dad books. It's simple, but should work. It could introduce a few instruments to the kids and see if they are interested in playing any instruments. I could bring in my instruments and play a little bit for them.

Do you just love Little Critter? An I spy book, great illustrations and a wonderful short story about a child interested in music after attending a parade. Worked well with the other "drum" picture books used for a drum storytime.

Mommy and Daddy have been taking turns reading this one to me on my toddler bed in my room (every night for the last week). I like finishing the lines to the story, especially the ones with the instruments (the tuba is too HEAVY). I laugh when Daddy imitates the mommy yelling at Little Sister.

I can relate to this book because I absolutely love music and played an instrument too. I would definitely give this book to a student who feels the same and has a love for an instrument and wants to relate.

Little Critter is inspired to learn to play an instrument after listening to the marching band in the parade. He tries out a variety of different instruments before settling on the drum. A good read aloud about following through with your dreams.

I usually love Mercer Meyer books but I was not to fond of this one. The kids who like these books might grind interest in this one. Kids who also enjoy music may connect with this book, I just didn't.

This book was fun. I got to point out the different instruments to my daughter. It wasn't super special, but a fun read. It will be a good book when she really understands what the instruments are. Also, it will show her that it takes practice to get where she wants to go.

There are an enormous amount of Mayer's Little Critters books and each one is great. This one focuses on finding one's inner talent and it may take several tries at several different things but there is something for everyone!

Quick read. Suitable for 1st grade. Setting goals, but realizing to reach those goals you must first practice and slowly build the skills that your goal require.
